“Waiting” in-competition @ 9th Vladivostok International Film Festival of Asian-Pacific countries “Pacific Meridian”

Waiting has been selected for competition at the 9th Vladivostok International Film Festival in Russia and I am really delighted by the news.

Outing was there last year and I had a really great time. The festival had a great film selection, warm hosts and was a very nice city. Had a great time watching so many good films and exploring the city with my fellow filmmakers.

Great to be going back!

For more information, please see: http://vladivostokfilmfestival.ru/en/programme/1/1038/

“Waiting” @ 7th InDPanda International Short Film Festival

Waiting will also be screening at the 7th InDPanda ISFF in Hong Kong on 18th Aug, 9:45pm, Thursday at the Broadway Cinematheque. Delighted that it has been selected!

InDPanda means “In-D-panda”. This kind of independent panda is a new discovery of the independent scene. You may once got the “panda eyes” when you never stop watching the films you love overnight. The annual InDPanda International Short Film Festival highlights short films with different genres and topics from all over the world. It aims to make you back for love of independent films. The black and white colour of panda reminds you the basic concept of independent production. Just a simple idea, even without big budget, you can still make excellent short films. It’s SO BASIC.

“Waiting” in-competition @ 1st Kavalan International Short Film Festival in Taiwan

Waiting has been selected for competition at the 1st Kavalan International Short Film Festival in August. Really nice that the film is going to Taiwan after my great experience at the Golden Horse Film Academy.

“A total of 128 short films from Taiwan and abroad will be shown at next month’s Kavalan International Short Film Festival in Yilan County. This is the first time a major international short film festival has ever been held in Taiwan. Out of 278 submissions received, 40 will be shown during the festival, which runs from Aug. 20 to 28. The finalists come from 13 countries, including Afghanistan, Finland, France, Germany, Japan, the Netherlands and Spain.”

Beautiful description of the film in Mandarin on the festival website:

社会的角落里,一对父子努力地适应着失去妈妈的生活,但经济上的困窘却又无情地找上他们……。新加坡导演姚志衞以写实压抑的笔触,描写边缘生活中所见的人情冷暖与亲情难题,无奈感伤的气氛教人心痛。”

“Outing” @ 1st Festival Internacional de Cine de Barichara, FICBA2011

Outing recently screened at the Festival Internacional de Cine de Barichara in Colombia and I had some really nice feedback that the audience enjoyed the short. Great to know that it’s still getting screenings after 2 years.

Thanks to everyone who told me they liked the film over the past two years whenever I attended the screenings. I really appreciate and feel humbled by the warm reception that the film has received.  Thank you.

“Waiting” in-competition @ “Golden Apricot” 8th Yerevan International Film Festival

Waiting has been selected for the shorts competition at the Golden Apricot Yerevan International Film Festival in Armenia held from  July 10-17, 2011. Delighted to know that.

“Golden Apricot” 8th Yerevan Film Festival has a new competition program, “Apricot Stone,” which includes short films. (It) gives the young filmmakers the opportunity to fulfill their ideas, express their own requirements and standards for selecting films and also make their own voting under this new competition title. Through the films shown in the “Apricot Stone” the young coordinators tried to understand “tomorrow’s” cinema with the genre differences.

“Waiting” @ 27th Festroia International Film Festival, 14th Zanzibar International Film Festival

I’m pleased and excited to know that Waiting will have two screenings come June.

One will take place in early June at the 27th Festroia International Film Festival in Setúbal, Portugal.

“The 27. Edition of Festroia - Festival Internacional de Cine de Setubal will be held this year from 3 to 12 June and will feature 180 films from 40 countries, numbers representing the diversity that characterizes the only Portuguese festival included in prestigious annual calendar of FIAPF (International Federation of Film Producers Associations).”

The other screening will be in competition in Zanzibar, Tanzania at the 14th Zanzibar International Film Festival during late June.

“ZIFF remains the largest cultural event in the East African calendar celebrating the
indefatigable strength of culture as a key driving force to development and the central
position of film and visual cultures in this.”

It’s nice to know that the film will be screening at these festivals. Really hope the audiences enjoy the film!
